Researcher on sustainability and food policies

Marco Springmann is a senior researcher on environmental sustainability and public health in the Nuffield Department of Population Health and the Oxford Martin Programme on the Future of Food at the University of Oxford. He is interested in the health, environmental, and economic dimensions of the global food systems. He uses systems models to provide quantitative estimates on food-related questions regarding the health and environmental implications of the foods we eat, the impacts that climate change and public policies could have on food consumption and health, and approaches to support dietary changes towards healthy and sustainable diets. He regularly provides input to high-level and policy-relevant reports, including those of the EAT-Lancet Commission on Healthy Diets from Sustainable Food Systems and the Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition, and he often speaks about sustainable diets at community events, e.g. with Guerilla Science.
